gained a new kitty: June

done a whole lot of nothing
well except for starting a new exercise routine
become obsessed with Pacific Rim

June is a kitty that my mom found hiding inside the hood of her truck after a big rainstorm. Luckily she meowed very loud, so mom was aware she was in there before she started up her truck. June is incredibly hyper and so damn adorable.

I don't really feel like typing up anything else, so here, have an assortment of photos.

There's been a new addition to my household recently, and it is marimo. 5 of them!

Look, they're smiling! Anyway, marimo are just moss balls so my love for them is probably over the top, but I honestly think they are really cute. lysanderpuck/Massiel helped me decide on naming them after the Japanese group Arashi. Which was perfect since I love Arashi, and their 5 members equals the amount of marimo I have. Clockwise from the one at 12 o'clock in the above pic they are: Aiba, Sho, Ohno, Jun, and Nino. Biggest marimo for tallest Arashi member; smallest marimo for shortest member.

Copy/pasting some recent tumblr entries.

Before and after of kitchen at New House. Before pic is with flash, after pic without—for a reason. Previously the cabinet color, plus that row of cabinets you can see on the top left of first pic made the kitchen very dim and dreary looking (the kitchen is in the middle of the house, btw, so there are no windows to bring in any sort of natural light). That old wall color was a bad choice as well.

Painted the cabinets (and removed that one row of cabinets, adding a light fixture there), swapped out all the hardware for new silver handles (omfg the old ones were hideous), painted the walls a new color, now its so much brighter and nice. The cabinets match the counter surface better too!

A couple more pics at my tumblr post here. Furniture is from Target and Ikea, bed linens are from Ikea as well. That barn owl print is from the very awesome Etsy seller Bee Things. I've ordered a couple more bird prints from them and look forward to putting them up somewhere!

We're forever slacking on actually moving stuff to New House, so I think I'm just gonna finally move my desk and other furniture over there so I can get motivated to get on with it. COME ON, SELF, GET CRACKING.

Once again I completely fail at updating this journal. Anyway, two important real life notices before I get back on track with my Etsy Finds postings.

I am now 28! Wooooo for birthdays!
I mentioned nearly half a year ago that I was starting an exercise routine to get my "bad" cholesterol level down, and in these past five months of jogging I've brought that level down by 20 points (and am now in the near-optimal range of numbers). My goal by this time next year is to get in the optimal range of numbers. I do have to take omega-3 supplements now to get my "good" cholesterol levels up though.

Welp, I've been pretty bad at remembering to update here it seems. As a reminder, I still post regularly at my twitter and tumblr, so feel free to add me there if you'd like!

Recently became obsessed with the tv series Teen Wolf. Yeah, yeah, I know. That MTV show? Don't judge me, okay. It honestly surprised me with how entertaining it is! Ended up watching the entire first season (12 episodes) with rasmalai in one day (tweeting at each other as we watched streams), and both of us ended up becoming incoherent due to being overwhelmed by the numerous amounts of HOLY SHIT moments. It was pretty funny when we'd talk to one another and be unable to say much more than "Remember when _____?" "YES I KNOW" and "ADFJLSFJDAFD;FD". Season two will end soon and we're both bemoaning the wait for the next one.

Still keeping up with jogging/walking regularly. Soon it will be two months since I started? Anyway, despite how much I complain I rather enjoy it. My calves are starting to look pretty good, I must say.

Once again I completely failed at keeping up my monthly medialogging, but whatever ( here's June's medialog. )

And I failed mostly because I decided to add a 'fic' category to my medialogging and--at about the same time--got rapidly sucked into Thor & Avengers fandom and ended up reading A SHIT TON OF FIC OMG. The following isn't everything I read during June, but ones that I thought I . Which is a lot. A lot of smutty fanfic mostly.

I don't know, it seems pretty neat to note down my fic tastes in the future. Like: what fandoms am I really into per month; Do I go back to really old fandoms; do I have months where I don't read smut??

So this morning--well, yesterday morning since its now 1AM--a storm caused the electricity to go out for the briefest of brief moments. And it completely set off the old alarm system in the house and there was no way to turn it off! Even if we did remember the pass-code (which we didn't), the alarm console wouldn't even recognize any attempts at pressing in the keys.

Had to call mom to come back home so we could try to figure out what to do. ("Should we call the old alarm company?" "But we don't have an account with them anymore!" "JUST DUCT TAPE A PILLOW OVER THE SOUND BOX" were some of the few things yelled over the loud alarm.) We--the bro and I--kinda just paced around for 30 minutes and futilely pressing at the alarm console in the hopes it might finally work, until mom came home and remembered the neighbor was an electrician, and he came over and unhooked the wires leading to the sound boxes or whatever those boxes are called. THIRTY MINUTES OF EAR KILLING ALARM NOISES. Mom was lucky and only had to deal with like 10 minutes of it. But she complained as if she was there the whole time lol.

Anyway, all the cats freaked out when the alarm first went off and bolted to the room farthest from where the noise was coming from. All except Old Cat since she's pretty much completely deaf, and the dog Sam, since he's just, um, a simple-minded dog and assumed the noise was because of YAY PLAYTIME :D

We're gonna have to eventually hook the wires back up again to fix it properly, though. Not looking forward to it since the alarm was never, you know, never turned off in the first place. :( To be completely honest, when it first went off I instantly had the paranoid thought that lightning had struck the home and it was on fire. Man, experiencing one house fire was bad enough, you feel anxiety it'll happen again forever.

...BONUS CAT PIC FOR NO REASON

She managed to figure out how to unravel the paper towel roll to make a bed for herself.

Tomorrow I'll try and put up the list of interesting nail blogs I follow. And possibly the fashion blogs as well? But definitely the nail blogs.
