Picross DS
Aug. 13th, 2007 05:22 pmI bought Picross DS the other day and I am now hopelessly addicted to it. I ended up playing for so many hours that first night that I developed a terrible crick in my neck from leaning over my DS (read: my gaming posture is horrible). XD
...Okay, I've spent the past 15 minutes trying to figure out how to describe Picross DS and I've only succeeded in typing out something totally confusing. So here's a brief explanation of the game from Gamespot:
There are three different modes in the single-player option. Easy Mode starts the player with 10x10 grid puzzles. Before the puzzle starts you have the option to use hints and that fills out one row and one column of the puzzle. Normal Mode has 15x15 grid puzzles (I think that's the largest it goes to) and also has the hints option. The hints are a godsend here--especially since I'm someone who is too lazy to attempt one without hints. XD Both of these modes have a time limit of 60 minutes (though this doesn't really matter in Easy) and if you've filled in the wrong square the game lets you know. A minor time penalty is then doled out. In Free Mode, the grid puzzles go up to 25x20 and there are no hints and no time limit. I haven't attempted Free Mode yet, but you can be sure that I will screw up like crazy. Let's see. There's more to the actually gameplay, but I feel like I've rambled on enough.
The only cons I can think of from what I've played so far are 1.) that the zoom function is somewhat annoying and 2.) because of the zoom function there's a risk of accidentally filling in a square while scrolling around. Ugh! I've gotten so many time penalties this way.
Anyway, fans of puzzle games will probably enjoy Picross DS and besides, it only costs $20. I love cheap games!

Next post will involve a poll about old Nickelodeon shows! I've been struck by nostalgia! And by "old" I'm talking about the early-to-mid '90s, which is when my favorite Nick shows aired.
