the annoyances of fandom discrimination

ghostdriveThere is one Fruits Basket community that I'll occasionally look through and I'm amazed by the rampant hatred for the Haru/Yuki pairing. If someone even casually mentions they like this pairing (or any other pairing people refuse to even consider, i.e. Kyo/Yuki) there is the guarantee of at least one person jumping down their throat and commenting, "WTF?! Why do you like [insert random pairing]! Its soooo not canon!" This is usually followed by equally rude assents by others. Its annoying to have your preference shot down merely because a majority of the more vocal members are disgusted by it.
Now, I don't mind getting into discussions as to why or why not I like certain pairings. Everyone has their own opinions regarding specific characters (and how their personalities are perceived), so you may never fully understand each other. And since most pairings are based on personal preferences, Truthfully, I have rather vague reasons for liking some of the pairings I like. A major example of this would be Kakashi/Iruka from Naruto. They don't interact that much in the manga/anime (on the top of my head I can only think of 2 moments where they even talk. One is after the Zabuza/Haku arc when Kakashi brings his report to the mission room, and another when Iruka protests to Kakashi's nomination of Team 7 for the Chuunin exams), and yet I can't get enough fanfic or fanart of them. I adore the dynamics of each of them and what could happen between them (haha, this gives me flashbacks to those old "What If..." comic book storylines). Many of the pairings I like are because those characters happen to be my favorite (as shallow as that may sound) or because of a specific scene that made me go, "Yeah! Those two!" Hey, I did say my reasons were sometimes vague didn't I?
Generally, I don't mind any pairing. Still, there are some that don't interest me at all, so of course those fanfics/fanart I just scroll past (Ah, the joys of a mouse. It seems some forget its actual function). My personal motto is that if you don't like it don't read it. Though, that not to say that I don't take the occasional peek at these pairings if its by an author I'm fond of. I have been surprised in the past at how much I could like a pairing that I previously had only a vague liking of.
I hope I haven't been too repetitive. I think I said the word 'pairing' far too much. ^^;
Oh dear, this post started out as me wanting to babble on about the pairings I like in Fruits Basket, and it ended up being a small rant. But yeah, before I went off in a tangent, I adore Haru/Yuki. I also have a secret liking for Kyo/Yuki. As you can tell, I am a fan of the lesser liked pairings. I'm rather ambivalent towards who I prefer Tohru with since she herself doesn't seem to give either Yuki or Kyo more attention than the other. I kind of get the feeling that the series will end with Tohru getting together with neither of them. Most of my friends are major Kyo fangirls, so they're probably hoping he escapes the curse of the cat and ends up with her. I just want the characters to realize their curse does not mean the end of their life (and I saw this since most of the jyuunishi are royally screwed up). And I have a small spot for Hatori/Yuki, which would probably be considered a crack-pairing since it is no where near canon-based. Haha, as you can tell, my favorite character (in this case, Yuki) ends up being a whore to everyone else. ^_^
Totally off subject, but 'Lemon Lime + Strawberry' Gatorade smells just like Strawberry Pocky. Its fascinating.
And for no reason at all, I'd like to state that I wish there were more Tenpou/Konzen fics out there. That is all.
