Echizen Nanjiroh character analysis

(First off, if you don't read fanfiction, or are not aware of the Prince of Tennis series and fandom, feel free to skip this post.)

To me there is no greater joy than good, well written fanfiction. And one that I consider to be great would be [livejournal.com profile] two_if_by_sea's Tenipuri fic a lack thereof. Anyone who enjoys the Tezuryo pairing (which is my personal OTP) and Nanjiroh interaction should really read it.

It's melancholy in that sort of way that if I was in a certain mood I would most likely cry. (and actually now that I think it over, I might be the only one who thought this fic was melancholy-ish). This is the sort of fanfiction I live for; the type that makes me feel and reassess what my views of the characters are.

This has really nothing to do with the above fic, just felt like analyzing Echizen Nanjiroh a bit. Generally, I don't like to read fics where Nanjiroh is the "bad guy". The ones where he is uncaring towards his son, where he is verbally abusive (which some fics show the Echizen household to be), or in anyway detrimental to Ryoma's well-being. In my mind, I'd like Nanjiroh to be fatherly in his own way. He'll never embrace his son, never speak aloud that he loves him. He'd worry for his son, but never vocalize it. But, this is the man that taught Ryoma tennis, in no way can I believe that he doesn't care. He'll encourage Ryoma in that seemingly rude way that could be mistaken for an uncaring attitude (but hey, this is Nanjiroh we're talking about. Everything he says and does make him appear to be an arrogant powerhouse of a tennis player). He's both there and not there. But, in essence, he is the basis to what Ryoma has become (and in that I mean, the tennis genius in both of them), and not what Ryoma will become.

....Hmmm, did that make any sense at all? Everytime I write out an analysis of a certain character, somewhere in the middle I'll think, "What the hell am I writing?" Hopefully the main idea of what I was getting at got through to anyone who reads this.

What the hell!? Everytime I take one of these damn quizzes involving Lj families I always get [livejournal.com profile] knukles_ as my spouse. IT'S A CONSPIRACY, A CONSPIRACY I SAY!! (Though, this is the first time I've actually posted my results for LJ family quizzes.) I'm even more amused that [livejournal.com profile] grod8404 is both my grandmother and grandfather. What, did you reproduce via asexual reproduction? And even more of a WTF! moment is that my spouse is also my brother. I SMELL INCEST!!

According to Jung (Our MBTI) we are psychologically considered "Opposites". This may happen a lot between us.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It's the Test/Result based on Carl Jung's personality (archi-)type research.
