"Yes, their relationship is kinda moving, but also just a bit moronic..." You said it, Haruhi.
Possible side-effects from reading too much Ouran High School Host Club: idiotic grinning and insane giggling. Seriously, there's no way I can't not look like a complete dork while reading this series. I JUST LOVE THE CHARACTERS SO, SO MUCH. Oh man, Tamaki continues to be my favorite even though he is nothing like the usual characters I like. Usually I like characters that are stoic or grumpy like Kanda, Sanzo, and Tezuka, but Tamaki is just far too adorable for me to not love; he's so spastic and goofy and pure and makes me talk incoherently. Which is why I want him to end up with Haruhi, but I don't think that's gonna happen. [sob]
My voice is gravely at the moment due to my cough/cold so I probably sounded especially weird laughing at Host Club this morning. XD

Re: Australia's Next Top Model (VH1 is currently airing the first season):
The judges are definitely much nicer than their American counterparts. Maybe its because it was the first episode and they didn't want to be too harsh on the girls, but I was sort of expecting the judges to be like Tyra and them and be like, "Daaaa-yuuum, you look like a drag queen" or at least give them a bit of constructive criticism. But pretty much all they commented with was "wow" and "oooohh" even though half the photos were on the crappy side. YES, I'VE BEEN SPOILED BY ANTM'S CATTY COMMENTS.

EGM Feb. 07 issue (#212):
EGM Afterthoughts article "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Airing Link's dirty laundry." interview with EGM (BT = Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America Localization Manager.)
- EGM: Another great new character is Telma the barmaid, and we were kind of feeling this weird, unresolved sexual tension between her and Link. Admit it: It's there in the game and you guys put it there.
c
BT: [Laughs] I don't necessarily say that's a sexual tension between her and Link so much as she's a flirtatious woman. Because, you know, Link's obviously a handsome young man.
EGM: We're not used to feeling these feelings as Link. He's a very innocent, pure boy. She's old enough to be his mother.
BT: Well, [Twilight Princess Producer Eiji] Aounuma said early on that, you know, with the more realistic graphics you're going to have to deal with more realistic themes in your game. [Laughs] And at the same time [Telma] tells you outright at one point that she's actually interested in Renator.
EGM: So she's just toying with Link.
BT: Yeah, she's just being a little flirtatious.
EGM: But that was in the Japanese version, too? You didn't add that?
BT: Oh, definitely not. There are certain moments where Link takes glaces at her that sort of caught us off guard as well.
(later in article)
EGM: But those Oocoo...why do they have breasts?
BT: Those aren't breasts--that's plumage.
EGM: C'mon--it doesn't look like breasts to you at all?
BT: I dunno what you're talking about.
EGM: Like a giant pair of women's breasts on a chicken?
BT: No! It's plumage. They have them on the back, too, if you look at them.
EGM: So is it our sick, twisted minds that see breasts every time we see the chicken things?
BT: Well, you guys are videogame-magazine editors. [Laughs]
EGM:We also have to wonder after the ending: Are Link and Princess Zelda ever gonna hook up? It is a Teen-rated game, after all...
BT: [Laughs] Well, you have to wonder, how unrequited is it really? Just because a scene doesn't necessarily happen on screen before your eyes, that doesn't necessarily mean the scene never happened.
EGM: You just totally revealed that Link and Zelda are having premarital sex.
BT: You know, like a lot of times a book will end, and the ending is kinda left up for the reader to interpret. You have to fill in the holes yourself.

- I was wondering, in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, when you get in a locker or bathroom stall containing pictures of women in them--is that squelching sound you hear what I think it is, or am I hearing things?
We just polled the office, and of the folks here played MGS2, none of them recall a particularly notable sound of any kind. But then Geoff admitted, "I might've been playing with headphones on." As always, however, we know the truth is out there and our readers are just the folks to bring it to light. So let us know, gang--what do YOU hear when you get in an enclosed space with photos of females while playing Sons of Liberty? Sean, we're also curious to know exactly what a "squelching" sound actually is; it sure sounds nasty.

I thought the following letter from the February issue of Nintendo Power (#212) was really funny.
- SUPER MARIO SPACKLE
If Mario is a plumber then why doesn't his butt crack show in any of the games?
Good question. We did a little research, and there are actually three reasons. One, he always wears stylish suspenders; two, he never actually does any plumbing; and three, Nintendo doesn't wanna get Mario in trouble with the ESRB.

- From Snake Speaks article: (interview with voice actor for Solid Snake, David Hayter)
PSM: Do you ever whip out the Snake voice in public? To order fast food, buy a DVD...?
David Hayter: You know, its a funny thing about the Snake voice. use it in front of people who have spent hours upons hours playing the games, and their faces light up with recognition and awe. Use it in front of non-fans, and they think you have laryngitis. But any time someone recognizes my name and asks about Metal Gear, I will respond in the voice. So keep an eye out for me, I live at Br-hguk-kshl-(transmission garbled).
