Confession: I discovered the following series through a fandom secret. At the time I saw that image, I had no idea what series it was for, I just thought the scene shown was terribly cute. Then today I saw something that triggered my memory of that image and it somehow led me to the title of the series. . . .But what was the trigger? For some reason this part is hazy to me. Man, why can't I remember the trigger? Even a search through my internet history brings no answer! Ahhh, this is going to drive me insane until I finally remember.

Anyway, my train of thought went something like this: cutesty image → ??? → Miwa Ueda?
→ Yes! The artist is Miwa Ueda! → Its ??? → Its Papillon-Hana to Chou! There was probably more to this thought train, but as I said before: HAZY MEMORY.

And then I went to mangafox where I read all the available scanlations. After, I screamed in frustration when I was done because the latest scanlation ended on such a cliffhanger. I need chapter 10! If I didn't have college textbooks to pay for, I'd so be snapping up volumes 1-3 from Amazon. Ahhh, come on September, I can buy them in September!

Papillon-Hana to Chou

by Miwa Ueda

The story is about a shy, unpopular girl named Mizuki Ageha, whose twin sister Hana is always the center of attention, while she remains a relatively hidden student in school. Her only happiness comes from her crush on childhood friend and schoolmate Koike Ryuusei, but she can never tell him how she feels. This all changes the day she meets Hayato Kyuu, a wild university student training in psychology by being a counsellor at Ageha's school. Kyuu urges Ageha to follow her dreams, and slowly she experiences a metamorphosis like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, gaining friends and improving her appearance. Of course, nothing is ever easy, especially when you have backstabbing, jealous twin sister like Hana!

If you're not a fan of soap opera-type manga (see: Ueda's other work Peach Girl), then this series is probably not for you. But me, I rather enjoy watching Ageha decide she's in love, the doubt this love of hers, then fall in love again, over and over again. She's a bit of an adorable train-wreck.

On the other hand, her twin sister Hana has a personality that makes me want to strangle her. By manipulating those around her and also by pretending to be Ageha in front of others, she's constantly jeopardizing Ageha's happiness. She's probably similar to Peach Girl's Sae and very insecure on the inside while projecting an outer confidence, but I didn't like Sae and I doubt I'll like Hana.

As for the male characters, I definitely favor Kyuu. He's immediately attention grabbing from the moment of his first appearance when he wandered into Ageha's classroom with a horse mask on, demanding coffee. Its probably unfair of me to dislike Ryuusei when his side of the story hasn't been shown much, but dude needs to get a clue.

But having read nothing but back-to-back shojo titles (excluding my continuing catch up on Naruto) I'm a bit sick of shojo for now, so I'm starting on Gantz and Worst next. Ahahahaha, violence.
