Fic rec: close your eyes and trust it (Howl's Moving Castle | book-verse | Howl/Sophie | NC-17)

Today I was in Howl’s Moving Castle fic reading mood, so I searched around for the fic I enjoyed back in the day and luckily came across this one again. I can recall having a “whoa!” reaction at this being an NC-17 fic when I first read this for no other reason that I typically don’t read Howl/Sophie smut often. But its honestly a sweet and charming fic. And hot of course.

Howl is typical Howl, romantic and dramatic and wanting everything about ~the event~ to be perfect since omg old wives’ tales, we must do all those rituals and have all these charms! That’s Howl for ya. He wears woolen socks and nothing else because apparently this will allow them to conceive a boy (an allusion to their future child Morgan?).

Meanwhile Sophie is his pragmatic half, rolling her eyes at this silly sock wearing husband of hers, but ultimately indulging him because she is utterly in love with him. They are utterly in love with one another. It is wonderful to read.

And their banter! Oh their banter. I very much enjoy Sophie’s snark and being more rooted in reality while Howl is his quirky self. “You are not bespelling my manhood. Absolutely not!” he says at one point. Oh Howl, only you, only you.
