ghostdriveMix together one disgraced cop, Chan Kwok Wing (Jackie Chan), looking for revenge and redemption after the death of his squad, a bunch of spoiled rich kids looking for thrills through bank-robbing, and martial arts up the wazoo and you have New Police Story. Okay, so there's more to the story, but anytime Jackie Chan is back in his element in Hong Kong Cinema (besides the Rush Hour series, I tend to avoid any of his American movies. The Tuxedo? Yech.) I'm immediately in love. LOVE I SAY.
Anyway, Nicholas Tse stars as Chan's new partner, Frank, who convinces him to pursue the bank-robbing case again after Chan basically drowns in his sorrows for a year. Nicholas is so adorable as Frank! Putting aside his penchant for getting into car accidents (XD), I've loved him as an actor since I first say him in Gen-X Cops. Frank is a very likable character from his undying belief that Chan will overcome his guilt to his hilarious exclamations of, "You my man!"
[cough] I'll let you in on one of the reasons I bought New Police Story: Daniel Wu. Oh how I love you, Daniel Wu! ♥♥♥ No matter what type of character he plays he manages to always look hot doing it. Even with horrible Rufus style parachute pants. XD
I am easily touched by even the the tiniest hint of sap in movies--Ugh, I'm such a crybaby sometimes--so despite New Police Story being an action flick I still managed to get teary-eyed. The first time was when Chan told Ho Yee, as they were trying to figure out how to disarm the bomb attached to her, "In this lifetime and the next, I'll always love you." Oh, Chan~. ♥ And finding out the significance behind Frank's jacket was really touching as well.
