ghostdrive: ([study time!] misc.)
There are times when I pop the Metal Gear Solid soundtrack into my CD player and do nothing but listen to "The Best is Yet to Come" on repeat, sometimes for upwards of an hour. Oh god, this song is incredible. ♥ I can honestly say that it is one of my all time favorite video game tracks EVER, and despite the millions of times I've heard it, it never fails to give me chills.

In case you have yet to have the pleasure of listening to this song...

The Best is Yet to Come -- Metal Gear Solid OST (lyrics, both the original Gaelic and the English translation)

Enjoy! And if you do download, please let me know what you think of it.

One of these days I'll actually get around to making that video game music pimp post I've been meaning to do for some time now. I promise to resist the urge to make it entirely of Okami tracks (even though I'm in love with almost every single track in that game). XDD

Things I've been into lately (besides the usual ES21, Reborn!, DGM, etc.) + random song associations that probably make sense to no one else but me.

Gintama: Action, comedy, and science fiction all set in the historical Japanese era. Aliens! Sword fights! The Shinsengumi! ♥ Gintama is perhaps a tad too crazy at times, but I'm not complaining. It focuses on Gintoki, a fallen samurai with a penchant for sweets and Shonen Jump, his (kinda) apprentice Shinpachi, and an alien girl, Kagura, who forces her way into their freelance business, Odd Jobs Gin. Toss in wacky side-jobs, throw downs with the Shinsengumi (one of which involved playing rock-paper-scissors for a sakura viewing spot), and the sheer strangeness that is Elizabeth and that's basically what Gintama is all about. Sort of. ...Yeah, right about now Dean Venture would be telling me, "I dare you to make less sense."

On a random note, apparently Chikadoh, one of my favorite doujin circles, is going to focus more on Gintama works! This means more Gintoki/Shinpachi doujinshi! YES.

サムライソウル (Samurai Soul) - Ulfulus

I defy you to not start wailing out SAMURAI SOUUUUUUL along with the song. I know I can't.

Lamento: Normally I'd be hesitant about declaring my love for a Japanese BL game involving cat people since, well, its involves cat people, but what the hell. A mysterious phenomenon known as the Void is arising around the world, and Konoe decides to leave his village on a journey to avoid it. As to what the purpose of this journey is really about I can't tell you since...um, I paid more attention to the sex scenes than anything else. Ahahaha. [embarrassed] This site can probably explain everything about Lamento better than I can.

Rai on the left, Konoe to the right. I love Rai's silver hair and eyepatch! ♥

How about a few more screencaps? They're all totally work safe, btw. )

Forces - Susumu Hirasawa

I also enjoy Nitro+chiral's other BL game Toganui no Chi, but to a slightly lesser extent. Its post-Apocalyptic smut madness!

Moyashimon: Okay, so I've only read two chapters of the manga, but come on, a series about a college student who can see and communicate with bacteria and other micro-organisms? I'M SO IN. Check out the scanlated chapters from Gekkoukan High Scans if you're interested (though I'm sure there are other scanlations available at [livejournal.com profile] moyashimon, but I'm too lazy too look). Oh, and while you there, all you Persona 3 fans might might the give the P3 manga a looksie as well. :3

ココロオドル - nobodyknows+

Sex Pistols: A yaoi manga about guys who turn into animals that's surprisingly awesome. Its full of so much crack, crazy romances, and mpreg that you'll probably start to doubt your own sanity, but its honestly one of the funnest series I've ever read. BLU manga has released four volumes so far under the name "Love Pistols".

This Could Be Love - Alkaline Trio

Black Butler: I should probably refrain from talking about series I know very little about since, like Moyashimon, I've only read two scanlated chapters of Black Butler, and there's always the possibility that my love will crash and burn at some point in the story (like with The Demon Ororon), but I can't help myself! It has hooked me in! And besides, that Sebastian just has way too much charisma for me to ignore. So dreamy~ So mysterious~ What I can tell so far is that Black Butler revolves around a noble family of England, the Phantomhive's, its 12-year old master, Ciel, and the other various inhabitants of the Phantomhive manor. Add in mystery, drama, yadda yadda yadda and there you go. ...And that's pretty much all I know; I need to hit up [livejournal.com profile] kuroshitsuji for translations and whatnot when I have more time (i.e. when I pry the PS2 controller away from my fingers).

Charlotte Mitternacht (The Fabulous Destiny of...) - Devotchka

Possible series to check out in the next few months: Pluto, Amatsuki, Angel Densetsu, Nabari no Ou, 07 Ghost.

EDIT. Blah, the last link doesn't work for some reason, so I replaced it with one I googled around for. Hopefully it works okay.

Back when I made that long list of video games I've yet to beat I had kinda decided at the time to try and play only one game at a time, starting a new one once the previous was completed. But I've already failed at that decision since last night I started Persona 3 even though I'm only about 50% done with God of War. :P OLD HABITS ARE HARD TO BREAK.

There's one thing that irritates me about God of War, and that's the fixed camera view. Having my vision obstructed by part of a building is annoying, especially when I'm rolling away from Gorgons or Cyclops and I instead end up backing myself into a corner since I can't see where I'm going. D: Mainly I don't like the slight advantage this gives enemies in battle. I'm complaining! Blah, blah, blah. I long for a button to rotate the camera around. I wonder if they fixed that in the sequel.

04. Castle in the Mist
16. ICO - You were there - (lyrics)

I mentioned the other day that I gotten the ICO soundtrack as one of my Christmas gifts, but that wasn't completely true since I was still waiting for the package it was in to arrive in the mail. It came in a couple of days ago and the two tracks I've uploaded above are the ones I've been listening to obsessively. I ♥ this game so much.

If there's one guilty pleasure I have in life, its Korean boy bands. I understand not one word of their songs and yet I can't get enough. [livejournal.com profile] meitachi recently did a big and incredibly awesome post on Big Bang so I thought I'd pick through my cds and upload a few of my favorite tracks.

We Are The Future -- H.O.T
Full of Happiness -- H.O.T.

H.O.T. was made up of Kangta, Moon Hee Jun, Lee Jae Won, Tony An, and Jang Woo Hyuk. They were popular in the late 1990s and, like all boy bands worldwide, went through phases of bad clothing and awful hairstyles (OMFG). In 2001, they disbanded with Kangta and Hee Jun setting off on solo careers, and the others leaving to form JTL. Btw, H.O.T. stands for "High-Five of Teenagers". GUYS, THIS MAKES ME LAUGH LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE. Damn, I love Korean groups and their acronym names. Yes, I'm looking at you Baby V.O.X, S.E.S, etc.

One Night Lover -- JTL
A Better Day -- JTL

I guess I can't really call JTL a boy band since they had only three members and focused on hip-hop/R&B, but seeing that they were made up of the remaining members of H.O.T I tend to associate them with their former group. Sorry, guys. XD JTL released two albums (plus that one 1.5 album Love Story that I never bought) before they themselves broke up to start solo careers.

EDIT. Okay, listening through all my Korean cds these past couple of days has got me on this big K-pop kick and now I'm looking for Rain mp3s. Anyone have any they're willing to share? I will throw many ♥s in your direction. XD

EDIT.2. ARGH. I screwed up the JTL links somehow. Will upload those two again tomorrow. Done.
