The first year I went to A-Kon, Naruto was the series that dominated the cosplayers, and last year it was like a Kingdom Hearts explosion. This year it was all about Death Note and Ouran Koukou Host club and I was TOTALLY HAVING FLASHBACKS TO ALL THOSE CROSSOVER FICS I'VE BEEN READING LATELY. I kept on expecting Light and Kyouya to go off into some corner and start scheming together. XD Anyway, here's my A-Kon 18 con report where I ramble too much.
First off, here are the cosplay photos I did take:

The following is THE SHITTIEST PHOTO EVER. I was struggling to take a photo of this Amaterasu (from Okami) as he/she moved around the floor performing "Golden Fury" on random passerbys (haha!), but I failed tremendously. This was a very cool costume though.

Right after this, my batteries completely died just as I was rushing over to take pics of a Katamari Damacy group that Gina pointed out. DAMN. They had The King of All Cosmos! His queen! The Little Prince! With his katamari! And several cousins! ARGH. I never saw them again after that. ;_; SO DISAPPOINTED.
I'm also really disappointed that I wasn't able to take more photos on Sunday since there were some absolutely great cosplayers this year. I spotted this Final Fantasy trio (Larsa and Balthier from XII and Lulu from X) walking around on Saturday that put such amazing detail into their costumes and, oh, I regret not taking their photo at the time. Other awesome cosplayers spotted: Twilight Princess!Link (the outfit he wore in Ordon Village), Advent Children!Rufus Shinra, several Michaels and Raphaels from Angel Sanctuary, a Phoenix Wright carrying around an "Objection!" sign, a Street Fighter group (with Ryu, Ken, and Cammy), and much, much more that I can't remember at the moment.
I'm sure the A-Kon site will be updated with photo galleries soon though.
Other photos from the convention:

Shin-chan!

One of my favorite booths at the con! It has plushies, key-chains, snacks, and other cute little things that I love. My brother accidentally moved his arm into the shot just as I was taking it. That's his sleeve on the right corner. XD

Haha!

I ♥ the architecture of this building.

The name of this place cracks me up for some reason.

And lastly, I leave you with this picture of Gina acting like the silly person she is.

Phew! That was long. I was going to tell the story about my mom's stolen cellphone, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Onomatopoeia!Damn you, "Ask A Ninja" Ninja, you're stuck in my head!
EDIT. I'm probably a horrible person for laughing at THIS, but I couldn't help myself! The added Street Fighter sounds just add to hilarity. The comments this has gotten on Kotaku make me feel less guilty about laughing though. XD

Haha!
- Ramblings!
- During the cosplay event there was a stagehand standing off to the side who would help the cosplayers as they stepped offstage, and I seriously nearly died of laughter when Master Chief and Cortana came out and he helped Master Chief down the steps instead of her. AHAHAHA. I laugh at the lamest things.
- DOUCHEBAG OF THE NIGHT: The Aang cosplayer who wasted a skit spot of the cosplay event to do nothing more than proclaim how great he was and how he was the next Vic Mignogna. Ugh. They should have killed his mic. I bet the A-Kon people were pissed off ('cause I sure know that the emcee was).
- Favorite quote (from an Ouran skit): "This idea failed like the launch of the PS3." Oh Kyouya, you are so great. ♥
- Was somebody hurt during the dance on Saturday night? We heard the alarm of a firetruck around midnight and a few minutes later they loaded someone into an ambulance while people either loitered around or rushed across the street.
I know I probably shouldn't find humor in someone getting hurt, but this person looked like (from what I could see from the 20th floor) they were dressed up as L from Death Note. HAVING FLASHBACKS TO THE YOTSUBA ARC. XDDD - Gina got hit on as she was getting her badge (which I find hilarious since she's several months pregnant and wears her grandmother's [?] wedding band) and she told me he said the thing he didn't like about the convention was that most of the girls were underage. I don't know whether I should laugh at that comment or be relieved that he's not one of those types who trolls around for young girls.
- Speaking of being underage, or I guess I should say looking underage, while we were in an elevator someone cussed, stopped and said, "Oops. I shouldn't cuss with kids here." And I'm pretty sure he was referring to me since I saw him glance over while saying this. I'm 22, people!
- Late Saturday night I heard someone scream out "SPAAAAARRRRTTAAAAA" in the hallway. So random. XD
- I bought very little this year: only the Eyeshield 21 artbook "FIELD OF COLOR" and the Loveless artbook "YOUR EYES ONLY". I wanted to pick up a few key-chains, some snacks, and a "Hen-tie" shirt (it showed a chicken with a tie on to play on the word "hentai" XD), but like I said, we left early Sunday.
- Me: Hey look! There's Billy Tucci!
Santos: Whoa, really?
Gina: ...Who?
XD Yeah, me and Santos are fans of his as you can tell (while Gina doesn't know who the hell he is). Its too bad we were way too intimidated to go get his autograph. I WISH I HAD, HIS ARTWORK IS AWESOME.
The creator of VG Cats was also there, and damn, his autograph line was long. (But I wasn't interested in meeting him though.) - On Sunday, storm clouds suddenly rushed in and it was just pouring rain. The wind was making the rain fall sideways! Here's what it looked like at the time:

That poor, poor guy on the bicycle.
To contrast, here's a shot from the day before:

Re: OMG
Date: 2007-06-07 12:40 am (UTC)And man, you always get hit on by the weirdest people. I don't know whether to take pity on you or laugh hysterically
(though I'm more prone to laughing, haha).
