A-Kon 2011

Nearly 3 months later I'm finally putting up the cosplay pics I took at A-Kon. OTL

I think it took me so long to post these since I didn't think I did a good job this year. Things that worked against me while taking photos:

→ I bought a new camera the day before we left for Dallas. I thought, pffft its like my old camera, I'm sure I'll figure it out. WRONG. Not as satisfied with the pics I took this year as I have in years past.
→ A-kon attendance increases each year, but this year I found it to be really crowded. (There were actually two overflow hotels this year! Usually its just one.) Like, normally its easy to take pics in the aisles of the dealer's room, but this year I felt like I was constantly just walking through a throng of people. (Luckily everyone seemed to keep their body odor in check. Although I did walk into a fart at one point. Damn you, crop-duster!)

Plus fifty-four more pics! )

To the random girl who excitedly said "high five!" to me while I automatically lifted my hand with a :| expression: sullen is my default expression! I hope she didn't think I was in a bad mood! I just have chronic bitchface.

Adventures With Elevators!
→ On Saturday we crammed into an elevator and someone said, "Wow, someone smells really good! Who shaved in here? You? You?" It was my brother's motherfucking Axe deodorant spray*. IS THIS REAL LIFE? Does Axe seriously bring in the ladies? I somehow managed to not burst into hysterical laughter right then and there, but I teased him about so much later.
→ Later that day we ended up on an elevator that did not open when we reached our floor. Cue me having an internal panic attack. NIGHTMARE SCENARIO. But luckily we went down one more floor and the doors opened. We avoided that elevator the rest of the trip.
→ Finally on the way to check out, after having to wait nearly 30 minutes, we made our way to the first floor. Except! No one pushed the "lobby" button! Our room was on the 29th floor, so we were going down, stopped on the second floor--WAIT WHAT WHY ARE WE GOING UP AGAIN?! No fucking joke, we rode it back up 31 floors and then back down 32 floors, finally hitting the lobby this time. The sigh of relief when we reached the lobby was hilariously loud.

*I promise my brother is not a douche. Mom bought it for him (he needed a new deodorant and she does not read labels and grabbed whatever was there) and he's the practical type to just use things and ignore the dudebro connotations that an Axe wearer faces.

Ahahahaha, I've been waiting to use this subject line forever. Finally, a suitable post! (Its the infamous soundbite from Altered Beast for those who don't know.)

Sometime last year I went to one of the older cemeteries in Corpus to take photos of the awesome tombstones there, and only today did I remember that I never got the film developed. [dies] I am so forgetful. So off to CVS I went.

I realized belatedly that I should have responded 'yes' when they asked if I wanted my photos on CD since then I wouldn't have had to scan them myself. I am lazy. Anyway, here are some of the pictures.

There should be another roll of film lying around with more grave photos. . . I just have to find it. XD

× What the fuck is Colonel Sanders doing dressed up as an EVA? (scroll down for pic)

× Kotaku's Tokyo Game Show 2009 cosplay posts:
× Video: Bioshock as told in the style of a bedtime story.

× Silhouettes of Ultraman monsters on Japanese electric transformer boxes. So awesome.

× Let's roll the time machine back to 1994 and check out some video game magazine ads from that year. Oh god, I'm getting flashbacks especially of the horror that is Shaq-fu.

× Sidestepping the Uncanny Valley With AI discusses the AI of non-playable characters/companions in video games, and what makes an NPC succeed or fail. Very interesting article, although I might be a little biased since the writer mentions Yorda and Agro multiple times, both of whom are favorites of mine.

× A couple more interesting articles from Bitmob: Game Design: Save Systems and Defending Imagination: The Silent Protagonist.

× These amazing photos show a man who paints himself like his surroundings thus rendering himself nearly invisible. So creative! It took me the longest to find him in the bulldozer photo. (Found via [personal profile] mklutz.)

× Greatest fandom secret ever.

× Fanfic:Things Found, a Persona 4 Yosuke/Souji fic where Yosuke discovers a way to ruffle Souji's impeccable calm via the sensitive spot on his neck. I love the build up, how Yosuke get's more and more in his leader's space while simultaneously being all 'WHAT AM I DOING' to himself until, BAM, hot moment at Rise's dungeon. Love, love, love. One anon called Yosuke a giant pesterbug, and its oh so true. XD

× Want your own Master Sword? Have $375 to spare? Well, this post might interest you. I have to say, those shields are really impressive, especially Dark Link's.

In the beginning, the intended coursework for my English class was supposed to be like this: five essays, plus an essay for the final, all over the novel Water for Elephants. So, at most, six essays in all for the four month long semester. But then the amount was slashed down to five (four + final) by the professor. And then four. And finally to three last week.

Just so you know, we haven't even had to turn in our second essay yet. And the last official day is next Tuesday. THIS CLASS. Its kinda driving me crazy since I have to sit on essays so long.

Anyway, I made a cake today (Betty Crocker Cherry Chip flavor), and while rinsing out my measuring cup I noticed this neat pattern the vegetable oil made atop the water.

+10; as always, they are a random bunch )

Don't know if any of you keep up with Mega64, but their latest video for Shadow of the Colossus is soooo great. The ending is the best. XD

Another post of interest from Mega64: Podcast 92, where they talked about how they got Kojima to appear in their MGS4 video. I looooove their podcasts. ♥

About a month ago, maybe even a month-and-a-half ago, my mom trapped a spider in a glass jar along with its--I don't know--its companion. The companion spider stopped moving soon after, but the bigger one is still alive. Since the jar has a twist-on lid and there's nothing but the other spider in there, I kind of expected it to die pretty quickly. But apparently this one is a tough guy. It continues to intimidate my mom with its round, quivering abdomen.

My mom is absolutely terrified of it--its the biggest one she's ever seen in the house--, but I think I'll set it free the next time I'm back in Rockport. +6 more photos. )
