Talking about those Dinosaurs. The Hakushuu Dinosaurs, that is.

While rereading this chapter, I came across a translator note that I'd completely skipped over the first time around:

The word "tamuke" can either mean an offering (to a deity or whatever) or an offering of flowers for those who are about to die.

Knowing that, the significance of the flowers Marco sent to the Devil Bats clubhouse has completely changed. No longer can I see it as a congratulatory gift for them getting into the finals, now I see it as a form of intimidation or a warning. Considering that Gaou has physically destroyed the quarterbacks of all the previous teams the Dinosaurs have played, I can see that Marco is implying that they will win the Christmas Bowl; that both Seibu and Deimon will "die" in their matches against the Dinosaurs. What a bastard.

...Yeah, this was probably something pretty obvious. (I'M OBLIVIOUS SOMETIMES.) Either that, or I'm trying to find significance in something that isn't there. (THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED BEFORE.)

Err...I thought from the start that it was some kind of mafia death "offering" as an announcement of incoming death. At their hands. That is why the manager tells Riku and Sena that they should forfeit mid-game ^^''' And if we remember Bamba and the Taiyou Sphinx...

I should probably mention that half the time when I'm reading scanlations I skim through the contents. (Its a bad habit of mine.) At first, to me, the flowers seemed like some very weird congratulatory gift, even after I read the comment Musashi made about the Yakuza/Mafia.

So, when rereading it the second time around with my full attention, I had one of those, "Hey, that's what it really means!" moments. I can see the "announcement of incoming death" as you said, but I still sort of see it as a strange intimidation tactic (this was mainly what I was trying to say in this post, but I guess I didn't phrase it very well), since the flowers will last some time and the warning attached to them will stick around in the Devil Bats' heads (even after Hiruma throws them out or whatever).

WHOA, I'M RAMBLING (and probably still not making much sense). D:
