Photography/Camera question.

I know a few of you on my flist are into photography so maybe you can help me out with something. And I hope you can bear my stupidity since I obviously know nothing about my cameras. D:

Currently I own two cameras, a Canon EOS Rebel Ti (SLR) and a Canon Powershot A510 (digital). I don't use the Rebel much these days since I usually take a crazy amount of photos and buying film for it is ridiculous (you don't want to know how much I've spent on it in the past). The Powershot has worked well for me, except when I disable the flash; if I don't steady myself against something (which doesn't work all that well since I have THE SHAKIEST HANDS EVER) or use a tripod my photos are destined to be blurry due to camera shake. My problem is I don't like to lug around a tripod--hell, I don't even own one myself. I want to be able to hold my camera in my hand and have it still focus on me without the flash on and without camera shake.

I actually haven't used any other cameras besides my own, so is this a usual thing for digital cameras? Am I asking for the impossible? Is my camera, despite being from 2005, a mere three years ago, considered an old dinosaur compared to any of the newer models? Or is it just that I'm unaware of simple photography knowledge? OH GOD, I'M RAMBLING, SOMEONE STOP ME. Please feel free to give me a swift kick if I'm making no sense whatsoever.

Note: This post was brought on by my trip to the Texas State Aquarium today. I turned off the flash to my Powershot so as not to disturb the fishes and other wildlife (and also to prevent the flash from glaring off of glass and whatnot), but I was kinda disappointed with the results I had on at least half my photos.

On a related note, I've been on the look-out to buy a new camera sometime in the future, so if you have a specific brand/product I should have a look at, please let me know. Its either that or a PS3.

It's not a matter of camera but a matter of light. The reason why the pictures are blurry is because there's not enough light reaching the lens to capture motion or withstand natural shake.

Its crazy, isn't it? I'm still puzzled over the meaning of the thumb-penis (and watch it be something totally obvious, haha). I should probably stop staring at the image--waiting for the message epiphany to come to me--,lest someone walk in and catch me looking at some strange dick. XD

That makes sense to me, but I sometimes get blurriness even when I think there is enough light (like when I'm taking pictures of flowers outside). I was checking the specs for my Powershot online and noticed that later models had image stabilization/vibration reduction, though I have no idea if that plays a part in the trouble I'm having. Hmmm, I should probably practice more with it, I guess. Or maybe I'll just go waste some time at Best Buy testing out their cameras just for the hell of it. XP

There was this guy at the Aquarium who had this awesome looking camera and he was just snapping photos like crazy, I kind of wish I had asked him what type he had.

Yeah, sometimes when you think there's enough light, there isn't. The camera and lens has some to do with that, too, but the main problem you should worry about just lies in light and a relatively steady hand.

I don't know what to do with aquarium shots, though ;-; ...Should probably look that up to see how to get a decent photo (it bothers me, too, when people use flash on the fish!).

Random story! I was really careful about keeping the flash disabled around the exhibits, but while taking a picture of the rocks in one, the flash went off while a stingray floated by at the last second. D: I ended up apologizing profusely to it while these old ladies around just stared at me. Sorry, ladies! I'm just a tad weird!

(Argh, I kept on typing out "stringray".)

Some cameras just do that. Like an old camera I had always did that and I HATED it. I was so annoyed but with my newer (but still like 3 years old) camera is better. But it still happens. ( I guess due to the lighting)

If you're in the market for a new camera I like my mom's Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 (I dunno if that's your model or not) but it's pretty good. It's kind of expensive though.

I really wanna buy some super nice camera for myself in the somewhat near future. I love taking pictures.

The Penis-thumb ad? I don't get it either. I have some theories but I dunno. XD

I mentioned to sarshin that later models of my camera had image stabilization/vibration reduction added, so maybe I should go test them out the next time I'm at Best Buy. I was testing out my other camera (its from 2002) and it actually works really well with the flash disabled. If I didn't have to spend a crapload of money on film for it I'd totally take it with me everywhere. For an older model its surprisingly great; maybe I should look for a digital equivalent to it.

And thanks for the camera reccomendation! I'm partial to Canon cameras, but I'm thinking for my next one I'll check out Sony and Nikon ones as well.

Yeah I'd like try out a Nikon, they seem pretty nice. I'd have to look around. It's amazing how quickly electronics get old, it's like after a year they're already ancient!

It is verrrryyyy strange. I think it's trying to say men have evolved to lust after gaming or something. But who knows. Whatever their intention was it was a BAD concept. XD
