Star Wars and Vincent Valentine
May. 20th, 2005 05:43 pmSaw Star Wars Episode 3 today with my cousin Gina (
grod8404), and it was ...wow, just wow. I can't really express how much I loved it. Though I will admit that the first 20 minutes or so are a bit boring (...I don't know why). The battle scenes and the events that lead up to Anakin becoming Darth Vader were very cool and interesting. Since I don't want to spoil this for anyone who hasn't seen it, I'll be putting the rest of my thoughts behind the cut.
(Haha, I'm glad there weren't that many people in the theater we watched this at today; only about 20-25 people. At least it wasn't sold out like it is in Corpus. Ah, the joys of living in a town full of senior citizens.)
(Note: This is in no particular order, just mostly random opinions and/or thoughts.)
General Grievous had the coolest way of walking. He (or should I say "it" since Grievous isn't human? Is he technically called a droid?) would stoop over and walk in a sort of predatory way (though he reminded me of an old man with how he would cough as he walked, haha). And in his battle against Obi-Wan he used FOUR lightsabers (but of course, history has told us that more than one lightsaber does not equal victory) made for a great battle scene.
Though I knew what would happen between Padme and Anakin it was still painful to watch. Especially since Anakin wants so desperately to prevent her from dying and in the end he believes that he did kill her (It could be argued that he in some way contributed to her dying during childbirth. She loved him so much that she was heartbroken when he chose the dark side). Ah, their love is so tragic.
Chewbacca was merely there for pure fanservice, but did that matter? Nope, I love Chewie, so I was glad he was there. Haha, I love when he gave Yoda a piggy-back ride (I think most of the theater went "Awwwww" at this.)Artoo had the most comic relief moments in a mostly dark movie. At the beginning when he has a communicator device, and Obi-Wan is telling him to start the elevator while enemy droids are approaching was hilarious since he's attempting to hide and failing miserably. And Threepio will forever be a gay british robot in my mind (I ♥ Threepio).
Palpatine makes for an interesting villian in how innocent he acts despite the fact he is very manipulative with Anakin (this is especially evident when Mace Windu tries to kill him. Gina kept on saying "Ewwww" when he came on screen after his encounter with Mace Windu. He looked like he melted.)
When the Shock Troopers turn against the Jedi Knights (after Palpatine triggers Order 66) was depressing. To see these great Jedi masters be ganged up upon (and some were killed while their backs were turned) and killed by mere clones was sad. Mace Windu's death scene particularly sticks out in my mind. When Anakin kills all the younger Jedi was also a riveting scene.
The final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Lava Pits was very well done. Even when the lava threatens to engulf them both, they still continue. And then when Obi-Wan gets to high ground, and tells Anakin that its over, and Anakin attempts to leap over him and instead gets both his legs and an arm cut off made me speechless. I cringed at this. Poor Obi-Wan, he loves Anakin like a brother, and yet here Anakin is screaming about how he hates him. And then the lava ignites Anakin's clothes and he burns becoming the disfigured Darth Vader we know from the following Star Wars movies.
The scene where Anakin gets his Darth Vader helmet on and he starts to breathe in that familiar machine-gasping way was incredible....until Gina snorted with laughter and ruined it for me. This is morbid, but Padme looked very beautiful in her funeral casket.
At least everything ties into A New Hope. (i.e. Luke and Leia being separated, Darth becoming the person he is, the Jedi council dying, etc.)
And apparently at the end, Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine were looking over the early construction of the Death Star. Somehow I did not catch this. Perhaps I should use this as an excuse to watch it again. ^_^ There were more moments I liked, but I'm too lazy to type them out.
Kelsey Grammar as Beast in the third X-men movie? Hmmm.... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since I think he would give Beast an incredible voice. I'll have to see him made up as Beast before I can get a definite opinion.

Killing younglings is the way to go.
