I feel terrible for saying this since I'm such an Indiana Jones fan and saying bad things about any of the films makes me go D:, but if I had to list the films in order from favorite to least favorite, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would come dead last. Dead. Last. Yes, even the critically panned Temple of Doom is better. (By the way, I personally love the Temple of Doom. I pretty much loved everything the critics hated.) Perhaps I just had way too high expectations for it, but I was disappointed it didn't live up to the hype; I didn't leave the theater feeling excited (like I did with Iron Man), I'm not replaying scenes over and over and over again in my head (again, like with Iron Man), I'm not swooning over Harrison Ford like I should be. What happened, Indiana? What happened to our love?

A list of some of the things I did not like about the film. Spoilers obviously. )Don't get me wrong. There were some genuinely good moments in the film, but I can only see the bad right now.

Before I read all the glowing reviews floating around my f-list, I totally expected Iron Man to be one of those so-so superhero movies with Robert Downey Jr. playing a not so convincing Tony Stark. But how wrong I was!

It was such a great movie, quite possibly the single greatest superhero film ever. The pacing, the special effects, the sheer energy the cast brought forth made Iron Man pure love for me. Love~. And now I can't imagine anyone else but Robert Downey Jr. as the title role. Go watch it now if you haven't! ♥ And hey, even my mom, who has no interest in movies based on comic books and who usually falls asleep at any movie I take her to, thought it was fun and interesting. Iron Man has the Parental Seal of Approval. XD

I also knew from my f-list to stay until after the credits, so now I understand those possible spoiler? ) jokes people have been making. XD My mom and I were the only ones who did stick around for the end credit sequence, and the cinema employees turned the lights on before turning them off again once they realized we were still sitting there. It was kinda embarrassing. XDD

So the day was pretty awesome....except for this: I made the BIG mistake of drinking a large cola (and as you all know, a large at the movies is like an extra-extra-extra large compared to drinks anywhere else) when the only meal I'd had for the day was a small breakfast, so about halfway through the film the caffeine suddenly hit my system--Bam! It was like my heart wanted to rush out of my chest. I missed about 5-8 minutes of the movie pacing around a bathroom while trying to calm myself from a possible caffeine induced anxiety attack. :\ I was okay, but it definitely was not a good feeling. Next time I'm only getting water.

Other movies I'm interested in seeing in the next few months (and their release dates):

× Speed Racer, May 9
× Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, May 22
× Hancock, July 2
× Hellboy II: The Golden Army, July 11
× Dark Knight, July 18
× The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon EmperorM, August 1
× The Happening, June 13

And a few from the maybe list: The Incredible Hulk (June 13), Mongol (June 6), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (May 16).

EDIT. I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING OVER THE LATEST PENNY ARCADE.

Who Is America's Next Top Model, Really? -- This article sort of says that the girls who win on Top Model won't all succeed in the business since American girls aren't the "hot look" at the moment. Sucky.

Nintendo Paper Crafts -- I want to make the Bunny-suit!Mario one for my brother. ^_^ Check it out [livejournal.com profile] cobra_bruce! They have Ness there too.

i am 8-bit -- This is a currently running exhibit in L.A. devoted to pre-1995 video game (i.e. Space Invaders, Burger Time, Metal Gear, Pac-Man, etc.) inspired artwork. Super, super cool. Go check out the gallery at the site. I suck at summarizing! But seriously, check out the site if you're a video game fanatic like me. ^_^

My thoughts on the 2005 Video Game Awards. )

------

(Okay, I haven't been keeping up with video game news lately, so bear with me if you've read any of the following already. I've been attempting to catch up with my brother's issues of EGM since I usually just read Playstation related magazines. Aug-Oct. issues done, Nov-Jan. still to go!)

In the September issue of EGM they did an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto (I think the article was entitled "Why is Shigeru Miyamoto so damn happy?"), and this portion of it was just hilarious:

EGM: What about this: If you could only save one of your babies from a burning building--Mario, Link, or Donkey Kong--who would you save?
Shigeru Miyamoto: [Thinks for a moment] Well, if I saved Link, I'm sure the other two could get out on their own. [Laughs]
EGM: And Link couldn't?
SM: He's too cute. [I'd need to help him.]

XDDDDDD I ♥ Shigeru Miyamoto.

Other various EGM randomness from the August through October issues )

Weirdest event of the day: My brother and I were wandering through the video game aisle of K-Mart when suddenly we walked into it. "It" being that natural phenomenon known as...The Lingering Fart Cloud. You know, that fart so thick it takes FOREVER to dissipate. XDDD Man, it just cleared up my sinuses; it was that bad. It was both disgusting and hilarious and I could not stop laughing (I needed some fresh air I think XP). Needless to say, we didn't stay long in the video game aisle.

Movies I want to see: Memoirs of a Geisha, Brokeback Mountain, and one other movie that I can't remember the name of. ^^;

MWAHAHAHA! I referenced Wonder Woman and her lasso of truth in a journal entry for English Composition and my teacher totally dug it. XDDDD She actually underlined what I said and off to the side wrote, "Good!!" SO AMUSED. And double exclamations points are great in my book. XD [*GASP* Could she possibly be a fangirl in disguise? Keh keh keh!] Because the essays are so damn structured (which I suppose is only natural since they are major assignments ^^;), journal entries are pretty much the only time I can put my own personal spin on my writing for that class.

Rocky 6? Stallone signs on for another round -- Okay, I adore the Rocky series (...well except for Rocky III and V. Those were pretty sucky). I don't know exactly why I love (most of) these movies, I just do. My favorite of the series? Rocky IV. Two words can explain one reason why: DOLPH. LUNDGREN. I admit it, I had a total crush on the man. And the whole scene with Rocky training in the Russian snow? LOVED IT. Ah, I can hear its cheesy 80's soundtrack now. ...There, its out in the open. I'm a Rocky Dork. XP

Saw March of the Penguins with Emily ([livejournal.com profile] farfromem) today. We made up two of the seven total people in the theater. *laughs* Guess documentaries don't exactly bring out the droves in a small town like this. ^^;

I have a very obvious bias towards penguins, so of course I loved it. It had both cute moments (like when all of the baby penguins huddled together in an imitation of their parents) and sad moments (yeah, I teared up when one penguin was separated from its mother and froze to death. The way she nudged it with her beak after finding it was heartbreaking. ;_;). PENGUINS AND CATS OWN MY SOUL.

And is one of my wisdom teeth coming in!? NOOOOO!!

The baby raccoons outside are super cute. ♥
