Ulysses Prance . . . the first
Feb. 19th, 2009 08:25 pmOh god, will it ever come to a time when I'm not boring? Future says no! Sorry I'm such a crappy, uninteresting friend, people. :V School is rendering me brain dead.
Anyway, links! A portion of these I meant to post back in January, but then came the 1UPocalypse and I pined for the ghost of EGM for like a month. (Related: Metaphors, Mega64's bid farewell to Evan Grant Mondesanto.)
× Hsu and Chan, a comic about the misadventures of the Tanaka brothers, a couple of game designers, that used to appear regularly (until Sept. 2008) as the final page of EGM. But now its back(!), and with quite possibly my favorite storyline so far, The House of Miyamoto (link goes to the first installment). If you like Shigeru Miyamoto and/or poking fun at Shigeru Miyamoto, you'll probably enjoy the current arc.
× Not Dead Yet, an interview with Dan Hsu about the editing process at EGM, the evolution of the magazine, and transition to 1UP and the 1UP Network.
× Youtube video: Streets of Rage speed run (~20 minutes). Things I will never get tired of #17289: hilarious screams and dying sound effects from old-school games.
× Youtube video: Jackie Chan in City Hunter -- Street Fighter II parody scene. Yeah, I've probably linked to this before, but I seriously can't get enough of it. Jackie is the best Chun Li EVER.
× 5 Years: The Best of 1UP. Originally I was going to link to all my favorite parts from this feature, but, wow, that would pretty much be everything. TONS of interesting stuff to read here. ♥
× Persona 4 papercrafts
Don't know if any of you keep up with Sore Thumbs, the blog of former EGM Editor-in-Chief Dan "Shoe" Hsu and former EGM Senior Editor Crispin Boyer, but . . . uh, yeah, I don't think any of you follow it. XD If you haven't guessed by now, I'm loyal to the things I like. When Shoe left EGM (and similarly, when anyone else left/was released from the 1UP Network) I followed along. Unlike all the other video game blogs I read, this one isn't about the latest news and information (I go to Kotaku and Joystiq for that); most of the posts are still related to video games in some way, but they're more about what Shoe and Crispin want to talk about, i.e. lots of articles about gaming journalism. Really fascinating in my opinion.
Some of my favorites:
× Behind the Scenes: Gaming Journalism (part 1)
× Behind the Scenes: Gaming Journalism (part 2)
× Behind the Scenes: Gaming Journalism (part 3)
× Behind the Scenes: Gaming Journalism (part 4)
× Behind the Scenes: Gaming Journalism (part 5)
× Why EGM Died (part 1)
× Why EGM Died (part 2)
