Oh yeah, when I went to Half-Price books the other day, there was a sign in the Young Adult section that said "If you enjoyed Stephanie Meyer's Twilight you might also like the following authors..." with this long list beneath it. I shit you not, the first name listed was Clive Barker. CLIVE BARKER. You know, he of the Hellraiser film series.

Admittedly, I've never read any of Barker's books, but if they're anything like the Hellraiser series, I'm cracking myself up imagining the look of horror on a Twilight reader's face when they decide to check out one of his books.

And now: the link recs I've been procrastinating on posting here!

Links.

× Video: Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa completes a painting of Big Boss/Snake live at an exhibit at the Konami Style store in Tokyo. Impressive! At first I had no idea what he was painting, but by the end I was like "whoaaaaaa". Seriously, its amazing.

× Introductory post to the variety of female head coverings of the Islamic world. Informative and Interesting. The batula was the face covering most fascinating to me (Google image for "Omani burqa" "Bedouin burqa" or "gulf burqa" for more info on it since batula really links to nothing).

× Computer attacks you've never heard of, a useful article from Lifehacker.

× Parents Shouldn't Text makes me glad my mom has no interest in texting me.

× I had no idea Lucille Ball timed her real life c-section with the airing of Little Ricky's birth episode of her show! One of my favorite episodes (minus Ricky in, er, "voodoo" makeup). The subject line of this post is what Ricky says when its time for Lucy to go to the hospital. XD

× From Pink Tentacle: Czech and Polish posters for Japanese monster films are really awesome looking. | Rabbit New Year cards

× For $2,000 you can have a wet suit that looks like a plug suit from Evangelion.

× My new favorite site for wallpaper: Simple Desktops

× Former chemical weapons factory becomes rabbit paradise. The videos are very cute. (found via [personal profile] mklutz)

× Video: Cats looooove soda boxes. I made a crazy squealing noise around 0:20 when the cat in the box showed its face. Eeeeee, ♥ One of my biggest cats enjoys playing in soda boxes, which amuses us to no end because, seriously, HOW DOES SUCH A GIANT FIT IN THERE. (Video found also via MK)

I have a bunch of tumblelog recs, but tumblr is being pissy and refusing to load for me. Next time!

× Postcrossing is a very awesome project brought to my attention by [profile] michachan. From the site:
The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost free! The main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive at least one back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.

I haven't had a chance to sign up yet, but I'm so looking forward to it. ♥

× Japanese kick boxer Yuichiro "Jienotsu" Nagashima cosplays as female characters in the ring, kicks ass while doing so. In a recent bout he skipped his usual Touhou Project outfits and came out dressed as Sachiel, an angel from Neon Genesis Evangelion, while his ringside entourage cheered him on dressed in plug suits. Not gonna lie, I would love to see one of his matches in person.

× Video: Zelda on Paper is a stop-animation of short Zelda clips using construction paper. The animation is very (very) simplistic, but its still pretty funny.

× This article on Instructables shows you how to make a shock-resistant camera case out of that squishy shelf liner stuff. I think the end result is pretty cool looking.

× Cutest Chun Li cosplay ever.

× New species discovered in the deep sea. Hilariously, at least half of them sorta resemble sex toys.

× A favela in Rio is turned into a rainbow-hued fantasy world by Dutch artists. Absolutely gorgeous.

× I've probably linked to this before, but I'm sharing it again since I think its amazing. Handmade Loco Roco plushies!

× Video: The creation of a 4-foot tall papercraft Gundam in under 4 minutes. I got worn out building a small Solid Snake in a box, so I admire this person's dedication.

× These toys by Bandai transform from kanji into the animals they represent. "The shape-shifting critters, called Mojibakeru (moji means “character” and bakeru means “to change”), come in six varieties — 犬 (dog), 虎 (tiger), 魚 (fish), 馬 (horse), 鳥 (bird) and 竜 (dragon)." Neat. And they only cost $1!

× 25 best cameos in video games. I had so many "Ah! I remember that!" moments while reading through the list.

× The real people behind famous fictional characters is an interesting and very fascinating read.

× I want these Okami and Okamiden sculptures! They are stunning.

× This article showing the best and worst of Paris Couture week is amazing omg. I'm absolutely in love with John Galliano's flower inspired designs for Dior. If only those sorts of clothing could be pulled off in real life! Elie Saab's eveningwear is also very beautiful.

× Jesus makes an appearance in Portuguese Playboy (NSFW), looks completely bored while doing so. Cue very inappropriate loling from me. Shortly afterward, Portuguese Playboy was killed off.

Giant sinkhole opens up in Guatemala City.

Holy shit! I'm freaking out just looking down into it! It must be more terrifying in person. But then Gawker users started posting macros of this image and so began the inappropriate loling. )

Links.

× I've yet to fully look into this, but it seems interesting nonetheless: The U.S. Foreign Service Institute offers extensive online language courses for free. I'm guessing this might be what I spend my summer doing.

× Found via [personal profile] mklutz: Bookshelf Porn shows awesome photos of bookshelves. I think I might be in love. ♥ Also, Stop-Motion NES Video Will Make You Nostalgic (And Hungry). Memories~

× Awesome Samus fanart.

× Bronze Katamari Damacy statue is epic. I would so pay money for this omg. More photos depicted the step-by-step process here at the sculptor's flickr set.

× These Race Queens in Evangelion costumes are kinda cute.

This weekend is A-Kon! I'm sorta planning out what sorts of items I want to look for in the dealers' room, and I have a question for any Gackt fans on the flist: the last album I bought of his was Crescent, which of his albums following the release of that are worth buying? (I should note that I pretty much haven't listened to any of his new songs since Crescent. Kinda fell off the j-music scene around that time.)
